Elon Musk drops to third place in the list of the world's richest people: Jeff Bezos still tops the list

The boss of electric car maker Tesla, Elon Musk, has slipped in the ranking of the world's richest people, to third place, according to Bloomberg's list of billionaires released Monday.

The South African-born entrepreneur's decline is linked to fluctuations in Tesla's stock. According to Bloomberg estimates, Musk's personal fortune has fallen 24 percent since January, to $160.6 billion (€145.5 billion).

Frenchman Bernard Arnault of the luxury group LVMH is now in second place with an estimated fortune of $161.2 billion .

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos dominates the ranking with assets of $190 billion (172.3 billion euros). He had only regained his place at the top of the ranking, taken from Elon Musk, in March.

Elon Musk is also in third place in the ranking established by Forbes, which, however, estimates his wealth at $146.5 billion (132.8 billion euros).

These rankings of the super-rich are mostly based on publicly available information about the assets of celebrities, such as stocks, real estate, art pieces or other luxury accessories.

The estimates are therefore not exact and may be controversial in some cases.
