Elon Musk, richest man by far: who are the world's biggest fortunes?

The world's 10 richest people added a total of $402 billion to their already substantial fortunes during 2021, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index showed Sunday.

Elon Musk, voted Person of the Year by Time magazine, tops the list, with $277 billion as of January 1, 2022, and a gain of $121 billion over the past year. The Tesla founder earned less than in 2020 ($140 billion), but it was still enough to make him the richest man on the planet. And by far. Behind him is Jeff Bezos and his $190 billion. The founder and former CEO of Amazon earned $4.5 billion in 2021. Frenchman Bernard Arnault closes the podium with $176 billion, of which $61 billion will be earned in 2021. He is the only representative in the top 10 who is not from the United States.

Other notable figures include Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg ($128 billion, +25 billion in 2021), Microsoft father Bill Gates ($139 billion, +7 billion) and Google co-founders Larry Page ($130 billion, +47 billion) and Sergey Brin ($125 billion, +45 billion).
