Canadian filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée has died at the age of 58 in a vacation home near Quebec City, several U.S. trade media outlets report. The cause of death has not yet been announced.
Jean-Marc Vallée was known for the hit series Big Little Lies and the film Dallas Buyers Club, the true story of an AIDS patient who sets up a business selling drugs not covered by insurance. The performances for the film's lead role, played by Matthew McConaughey, as well as the supporting role, played by Jared Leto, had each been synonymous with the Oscar. The Canadian director has also received several awards for the hit series Big Little Lies, including an Emmy Award and a Directors Guild Award. The series starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon tells the story of a wealthy neighborhood where a murder uncovers a series of secrets.
