Marilia Mendonça, one of the most beloved singers of Brazil, dies tragically in a plane crash: she was 26 years old


Brazil was in turmoil on Friday after the death in a plane crash of Marilia Mendonça, one of the country's most beloved singers. Star of the sertanejo, a musical genre close to the country and very popular in Brazil, the singer of 26 years died in the crash of a small plane-taxi in the state of Minas Gerais (southeast).
 
The singer's producer, her uncle and the two pilots of the plane were also killed, said the agent of Marilia Mendonça. According to the police, the probable cause of the accident was a collision with an antenna. A huge number of Brazilian celebrities reacted with emotion to the death of the singer, who had started her career in 2014 and was one of the first women to break into the sertanejo, a genre traditionally dominated by men.
  
 
President Jair Bolsonaro praised one of the greatest artists of her generation. Immensely popular in Brazil, Marilia Mendonça had 39 million followers on Instagram and 22 million on her YouTube channel. Just before the accident, she posted a video on social media of herself boarding and eating a meal inside the plane, announcing a weekend of shows.
