Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 has cancer at 49

Mark Hoppus of the music band Blink-182 alarmed fans when he shared a photo of himself on Instagram sitting in what appears to be a hospital with an IV in his arm.

Beside it, the singer had captioned, Hello, yes. Cancer treatment please.

The photo was quickly deleted, but not before the concerned fans took a screenshot.

A few hours later, Hoppus confirmed the sad news on Twitter, writing, For the past three months I have been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. I have cancer. It sucks and I'm scared, and at the same time I'm lucky to have amazing doctors, family and friends to help me through it. I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I'm trying to stay hopeful and positive, he continued. I can't wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future, hopefully. I love you all.

Blink-182's band was formed in California in 1992 and became an American MTV darling with songs like All The Small Things and What's My Age Again?

Their musical style, a fusion of pop music and traditional punk rock, has made them big stars selling over 50 million albums worldwide.

The group gained considerable media attention with their 1999 video What's My Age Again? which saw founding Hoppus members Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge running naked in the street.
