Sleep: here's how much sleep you should get on the weekend to stay healthy

Ah, the weekend! You look forward to it so you can sleep late but beware, this habit could be detrimental to the proper functioning of your body. Indeed, trying to get some sleep by sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday is not a good idea. In addition, it will not make you feel any better than before because it will only make you feel better in the moment.

Indeed, getting up much later on weekends than during the week will actually break your sleep rhythm. Consequences? Your body won't really know what time it should start working and you'll be much more tired during the week and have a hard time getting out of bed.

A study published in Sleep Medicine found that getting more sleep on the weekends would be a great way to counteract the negative effects of not getting enough sleep during the week.

But a little more means how long? Researchers say that only one or two hours would be enough to be healthier and not throw off our sleep patterns.

So you don't have to get up at 6 a.m. on the weekend. It's even better to sleep a little later than during the week in order to catch up on your sleep and decrease the chances of developing disorders such as depression. But you shouldn't go overboard and sleep more than 10 hours.
