Japanese billionaire donates nearly 8 million euros to Ukraine

Japanese entrepreneur Hiroshi Mickey Mikitani donated one billion yen (7.6 million euros) to the Ukrainian government. The boss of the Japanese online retail giant Rakuten says the money is for humanitarian activities to help people affected by violence in Ukraine.

My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, Mikitani wrote in a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. I believe that the trampling of a peaceful and democratic Ukraine by unjustified violence is a challenge to democracy, he added on Twitter. Hiroshi Mikitani had visited Kiev in 2019. He met with Volodymyr Zelensky.
